Alfred Chandler (15 Sep.1918 - 09 May 2007)

Alfred Chandler died on May 9 in Cambridge, Mass. Chandler’s famous book, “The Visible Hand: The Managerial Revolution in American Business” (1977), won the Pulitzer Price for history and Columbia University’s prestigious Bancroft Prize . His thesis was that managers, functioning as a “visible hand,” had replaced the “invisible hand” of Adam Smith’s free market in allocating resources. Dr. Chandler retired in 1989 from Harvard Business School after a long career in academia.

Update

At times, my worries grow in an exponential manner. The point in time at which the thesis’ draft must be completed is arriving, and I feel like in hostage. Is it possible that, even if I’m in the 3rd year of my doctoral studies, I  feel still not well-focused on my research question? My visit to Warwick is almost over… Many factors are seriously contributing to reduce my level of attention, and within few days I will be white haired… The list would be very long and I’ve to finish the paper… After the meeting with Colin, I will update my (mental) status…
